Follow The Directions

01

Step

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Line a loaf pan with parchment paper, leaving an overhang on the sides for easy removal. Grease the parchment paper with cooking spray. (5 minutes)

02

Step

In a medium saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter. Continue to cook, swirling occasionally, until the butter foams and the milk solids begin to brown and emit a nutty aroma, about 5-8 minutes. This process creates beurre noisette, or brown butter, which adds a depth of flavor to the bread. Remove from heat and let cool slightly. (10 minutes)

03

Step

In a large bowl, using an electric mixer, beat together the sugar and egg until light and fluffy. Beat in the baking powder and almond extract. (5 minutes)

04

Step

Gradually drizzle in the cooled brown butter, mixing until just combined. Be careful not to overmix. (2 minutes)

05

Step

Alternately add the flour and heavy cream to the batter in two to three additions, beginning and ending with the flour. Mix until just incorporated. (3 minutes)

06

Step

Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan. If desired, sprinkle the top with slivered almonds. (2 minutes)

07

Step

Bake in the preheated oven for 50-60 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. (60 minutes)

08

Step

Let the bread cool in the pan for 15 minutes before lifting it out using the parchment paper overhang. Transfer to a wire rack to cool completely. (15 minutes)

For an even richer flavor, use browned butter instead of regular melted butter.
Be careful not to overmix the batter, as this can result in a tough bread.
If you don't have almond extract, you can substitute with vanilla extract, but the almond flavor will be less pronounced.
Store the cooled bread in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days.
