Use a heavy-bottomed saucepan to prevent scorching. A candy thermometer is highly recommended for accurate temperature control. If you don't have one, use the cold water test described in the directions. Work quickly once the candy reaches the hard crack stage, as it will begin to harden rapidly. Experiment with different flavor extracts and food colorings to create unique candies. Be extremely careful when working with hot sugar, as it can cause severe burns. Adult supervision is required. For clear candy, avoid stirring the mixture after the sugar has dissolved.

Apr 2, 2025My candy didn't harden properly. I think I might not have cooked it to a high enough temperature.
