Follow The Directions

01

Step

Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C). (5 minutes)

02

Step

Generously oil a 10-inch cast iron skillet. Place in the preheated oven to heat up. (10 minutes)

03

Step

In a large bowl, whisk together cornmeal, flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, and baking soda. (3 minutes)

04

Step

In a separate medium bowl, whisk together eggs, oil, and buttermilk. (2 minutes)

05

Step

Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined. Be careful not to overmix; a few lumps are okay. (2 minutes)

06

Step

Carefully remove the hot skillet from the oven and pour the batter into it. The batter should sizzle upon contact. (1 minute)

07

Step

Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean and the cornbread is golden brown. (30 minutes)

08

Step

Let the cornbread cool in the skillet for 5 minutes before inverting it onto a serving plate. (5 minutes)

For an extra touch of flavor, add 1/2 cup of creamed corn to the batter.
If you don't have buttermilk, you can make a substitute by adding 1 1/2 tablespoons of lemon juice or white vinegar to 1 1/2 cups of milk. Let it sit for 5 minutes before using.
Serve warm with butter, honey, or your favorite chili.
