Follow The Directions

01

Step
40 mins

Prepare the bread dough according to your recipe or package directions. Place the dough in a large, greased bowl. Cover and let rise in a warm place until doubled in size (approximately 30-45 minutes).

02

Step
5 mins

For the Caramel Pecan Topping: In a medium saucepan, melt 1 cup of butter over medium heat. Add 1 cup of dark brown sugar and corn syrup. Stir continuously until the sugar is fully dissolved and the mixture is smooth. Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla extract. Spread this caramel mixture evenly in a 13 x 9-inch baking pan. Sprinkle the chopped pecans evenly over the caramel.

03

Step
40 mins

For the Cinnamon Filling: In a small bowl, combine 3/4 cup of light brown sugar, 6 tablespoons of softened butter, flour, and cinnamon. Mix with a fork until the mixture is well blended and crumbly. On a lightly floured surface, roll the risen dough into a 16 x 10-inch rectangle. Evenly distribute the cinnamon filling over the entire surface of the dough. Beginning at the long side, tightly roll up the dough, pressing the seam to seal. Cut the roll evenly into 15 slices.

04

Step
33 mins

Place the slices cut-side down in the prepared pan, nestled snugly together. Cover loosely with plastic wrap and let rise in a warm place (80-90°F) for another 30-45 minutes, or until doubled in size.

05

Step

Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake the buns for 30-35 minutes, or until they are golden brown and the caramel is bubbly. Let the buns cool in the pan for 10 minutes to allow the caramel to thicken slightly. Invert the pan onto a serving plate. Serve warm or at room temperature.

For an extra depth of flavor, consider using toasted pecans in both the topping and filling.
If you don't have time to make your own bread dough, store-bought frozen bread dough works perfectly well. Just thaw it completely before using.
Don't overbake the buns! They should be golden brown, but the caramel can burn easily. Keep a close eye on them during the last 10 minutes of baking.
The stickiness of the buns makes them a bit messy, so be sure to have plenty of napkins on hand!
