Follow The Directions

01

Step

Prepare the Egg Wash: In a small bowl, whisk together the egg white and water until slightly frothy. Set aside. (2 minutes)

02

Step

Create the Filling: In a separate bowl, gently combine the ground beef, hot Italian sausage, 1 tablespoon of Asian sweet chili sauce, Chinese five-spice powder, garlic powder, green onion, salt, and pepper. Mix lightly to avoid overworking the meat. (5 minutes)

03

Step

Assemble the Wontons: Lay a wonton wrapper on a clean surface with one corner pointing towards you. Place approximately 1 teaspoon of the meat mixture in the center. Fold the left and right corners inward, slightly overlapping the filling. Tightly roll the lower corner upwards to enclose the filling, forming a small pocket. Continue rolling until only the tip of the remaining corner is visible. Brush the tip with the egg white mixture to seal. Repeat with the remaining wrappers and filling. (30-40 minutes)

04

Step

Heat the Oil: In a deep-fryer or a large, heavy-bottomed saucepan, heat the vegetable oil to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Use a thermometer to ensure accurate temperature. (10 minutes)

05

Step

Fry the Wontons: Carefully lower the wontons into the hot oil in batches, being careful not to overcrowd the fryer. Fry for 3 to 5 minutes, or until golden brown and crispy. (5-7 minutes per batch)

06

Step

Drain and Serve: Remove the fried wontons with a slotted spoon and place them on a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess oil. Serve immediately with 1/2 cup of Asian sweet chili sauce for dipping.

For a vegetarian option, substitute the beef and sausage with a mixture of finely chopped mushrooms, water chestnuts, and tofu.
Wontons can be prepared ahead of time and refrigerated for up to 24 hours before frying. Ensure they are tightly sealed to prevent drying.
Adjust the amount of sweet chili sauce and five-spice powder to your preference. A dash of soy sauce or sesame oil can also enhance the filling's flavor.
