Keep a close eye on the mixture as it simmers, especially towards the end, to prevent it from burning or sticking to the bottom of the pan.
Adjust the amount of sugar to your liking. If you prefer a less sweet condensed milk, reduce the sugar by a tablespoon or two.
This recipe can easily be doubled or tripled, depending on your needs. Just be sure to use a larger saucepan to accommodate the increased volume.
