Toast the slivered almonds for a nuttier flavor. Spread them on a baking sheet and bake at 350°F (175°C) for 5-7 minutes, or until lightly golden. For a tangier dressing, add a teaspoon of Dijon mustard. If you don't have red onion, shallots can also be used.
