Prepare the Basil: Bring a large pot of salted water to a rolling boil. Add the basil leaves and blanch until they turn bright green and are tender, about 2-5 minutes. Immediately drain the basil, reserving 2 tablespoons of the basil-infused water.

Blend to Perfection: In a high-speed blender, combine the blanched basil, reserved basil water, Parmesan cheese, softened cream cheese, olive oil, butter, and minced garlic. Blend until the sauce is exceptionally smooth and creamy, scraping down the sides as needed. (Approximately 2-3 minutes)

Serve: Toss with your favorite cooked pasta (spaghetti, linguine, or fettuccine work particularly well). Garnish with extra Parmesan cheese and a drizzle of olive oil, if desired.

For an even richer flavor, try toasting the garlic clove lightly in a pan with olive oil before adding it to the blender.
Adjust the consistency of the pesto by adding more of the reserved basil water, or more olive oil for a thinner sauce.
This pesto is also delicious as a spread for sandwiches or as a topping for grilled chicken or fish.
This recipe freezes well. Store it in an airtight container for up to 2 months.
