Follow The Directions

01

Step
15 mins

Preheat oven to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C). (15 minutes)

02

Step
8 mins

Prepare the tomato sauce: Heat a frying pan over medium heat. Add olive oil, then add the sliced tomatoes, minced garlic, Italian seasoning, red pepper flakes, and salt. Cook, stirring occasionally, until the tomatoes have softened and broken down into a chunky sauce, about 8 minutes. Set aside.

03

Step
7 mins

Prepare the sausage and vegetables: Heat the same pan over medium-high heat. Add the sausage and cook, breaking it up with a spoon, until browned and cooked through, about 7 minutes. Remove the cooked sausage from the pan and set aside. Add the sliced onion and fennel to the pan and cook until softened and slightly caramelized, about 8 minutes. Add the baby spinach and cook until the leaves begin to wilt, about 1 minute.

04

Step
8 mins

Assemble the pizza: Spread the tomato sauce evenly over the pizza dough, leaving a small border for the crust. Sprinkle the cooked sausage and vegetable mixture over the tomato sauce. Dollop the ricotta cheese evenly over the pizza. Sprinkle with shaved Parmesan cheese.

05

Step
1 mins

Bake the pizza: Bake in the preheated oven until the crust is golden brown and the cheese is melted and bubbly, 12 to 15 minutes. Let cool slightly before slicing and serving. Garnish with fresh fennel fronds and additional shaved Parmesan cheese.

For a spicier pizza, use hot Italian sausage or add more crushed red pepper flakes.
If you don't have fresh fennel, you can substitute with 1/4 teaspoon of fennel seeds.
For a crispier crust, pre-bake the pizza dough for a few minutes before adding the toppings.
Fresh mozzarella can be used to replace the ricotta.
