Follow The Directions

01

Step

In a large saucepan or Dutch oven, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and cook until lightly golden and fragrant, about 2-3 minutes. Be careful not to burn the garlic. (2-3 minutes)

02

Step

Stir in the chopped fresh parsley, minced clams with their juice, and crushed tomatoes. Season with salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste. (2 minutes)

03

Step

Bring the sauce to a gentle simmer, then reduce the heat to low, cover, and simmer for at least 45 minutes, or up to an hour, stirring occasionally. This allows the flavors to meld together beautifully. (45-60 minutes)

04

Step

Serve immediately over your favorite cooked pasta, such as spaghetti or linguine. Garnish with additional fresh parsley, a drizzle of olive oil, and a sprinkle of red pepper flakes for a touch of heat, if desired.

For a richer flavor, consider adding a splash of dry white wine to the sauce along with the tomatoes.
If you prefer a smoother sauce, you can use an immersion blender to partially blend the sauce before serving.
Fresh clams can be substituted for canned, just be sure to steam them open first and reserve the clam broth for the sauce.
Serve with crusty Italian bread for soaking up all that delicious sauce!

The sauce was a bit too acidic for my taste, so I added a pinch of sugar to balance it out.

Next time I'll try using fresh clams. Thanks for the inspiration!

I added a little white wine and it really elevated the flavor. Thanks for the tip!

I found the sauce a little thin, but after simmering a bit longer, it thickened up nicely.

  • Dan Robel

The garlic was browned a bit fast, so I would recommend keeping an eye on it.
