For a richer, more complex flavor, use pure maple extract instead of imitation maple flavor. If you're using a vanilla bean, be sure to remove the pod after the syrup has cooled to prevent the vanilla flavor from becoming too overpowering. Sterilizing your jars before filling them will help to extend the shelf life of the syrup. This syrup also makes a wonderful gift! Pour it into decorative bottles and add a personalized label.
