Follow The Directions

01

Step

Preheat oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. (5 minutes)

02

Step

In a shallow bowl, combine the flour, seasoned bread crumbs, Italian seasoning, salt, 1 1/2 teaspoons garlic powder, onion powder, chili powder, paprika, and pepper. Mix well to ensure even distribution of spices. (2 minutes)

03

Step

In a separate shallow bowl, whisk together the milk, egg, honey, lemon juice, and 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder until thoroughly blended. (2 minutes)

04

Step

Dip each chicken piece into the flour mixture, ensuring all sides are fully coated. Shake off any excess. Then, dip the coated chicken into the egg mixture, followed by another coating in the flour mixture. Place the breaded chicken pieces on a plate to rest for 10 minutes. This allows the breading to adhere properly. (20 minutes)

05

Step

Pour 1 inch of peanut oil into a deep-fryer or large saucepan. Heat the oil to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C) over medium-high heat. Use a thermometer to ensure accurate temperature. Fry the chicken in batches, being careful not to overcrowd the fryer. Fry for 3 to 5 minutes per side, until golden brown and crispy. Transfer the fried chicken to the prepared baking sheet using tongs. (20 minutes)

06

Step

Bake in the preheated oven for 30 to 40 minutes, or until the chicken is no longer pink at the bone and the juices run clear. An instant-read thermometer inserted near the bone should register 165 degrees F (74 degrees C). (40 minutes)

For an extra layer of flavor, consider marinating the chicken in the milk, egg, honey, lemon juice and garlic powder mixture for at least 30 minutes, or even overnight, before breading.
Ensure the peanut oil is at a consistent temperature for even cooking. If the oil is too cool, the chicken will be greasy. If it's too hot, the breading will burn before the chicken is cooked through.
Feel free to adjust the seasonings to your liking. A pinch of cayenne pepper can add a delightful kick!
If you don't have peanut oil, other high-heat oils like canola or vegetable oil can be substituted.
