While the rice simmers, in a separate saucepan, whisk together the pumpkin puree, pumpkin pie spice, brown sugar, butter, and a pinch of salt.

Gently heat the pumpkin mixture over medium-low heat, stirring occasionally, until warmed through and the butter is melted and incorporated. Be careful not to boil. (5 minutes)

Once the rice is cooked and the water absorbed, gently stir the warm pumpkin mixture into the rice until evenly combined.

For a richer flavor, use chicken or vegetable broth instead of water to cook the rice.
Toast the rice in the saucepan with a tablespoon of butter before adding the water for a nuttier taste.
